Mastic/Shirley, NY – Brookhaven Town Highway Superintendent Daniel P. Losquadro and Councilwoman Karen Dunne Kesnig have announced the completion of two paving projects resulting in the resurfacing of 23 roadways across Mastic and Shirley.
Prior to paving, crews completed drainage maintenance and replaced damaged concrete aprons. The first project involved the resurfacing of 10 roadways between Somerset Avenue and Meadowmere Avenue. Roads resurfaced in this project included: Pawnee Avenue, Meadowmere Avenue, Strafford Street, Terapin Street, Tonopan Street, Bullard Street, Van Buren Street, Monroe Street, Madison Street and Hawthorne Street. The total cost for this paving project was approximately $1.2 million.
In the second project, the following roadways were resurfaced: Essex Circle, Ostend Circle, Hounslow Road, Broadway, Concord Road, Floyd Road, Tudor Road, Stuart Road, Linden Avenue, Fleet Road, Lawrence Road, The Green and Beacon Street. The total cost for this paving project was approximately $1.2 million as well.
“Last year, we were able to pave roadways north of Floyd Road and this year we returned to focus south of Floyd,” said Losquadro. “These were all heavily-traveled roadways that see a great deal of daily traffic from motorists going to and from John S. Hobart Elementary School, William Floyd Elementary School and Nathaniel Woodhull Elementary School. Over the last two paving seasons, we’ve successfully resurfaced dozens of roadways in this area making them safer and smoother for residents, commuters and pedestrians.”
Councilwoman Dunne Kesnig said, “Our roads are the backbone of daily life and maintaining them is essential to keeping our communities connected and thriving.”
