A proven reformer, Brookhaven Town Highway Superintendent Dan Losquadro first won election to represent Suffolk County’s 6th Legislative District in November 2003. During his 7 years as a County Legislator, he served as chairman of the Environment, Planning and Agriculture Committee as well as the Veterans & Seniors Committee.
Meet Dan
In 2006, Losquadro was elected by his peers as the legislature’s Republican Conference Leader, a position he held for the remainder of his time in the legislature. In this leadership position he developed comprehensive strategies for handling county-wide problems while never losing sight of his primary responsibility to the constituents of the 6th Legislative District. In this capacity Dan served on every major budget working group, holding the line on country general fund taxes every year he was in office.
In 2010 Dan took his record of leadership and results to Albany. In November of that year Dan won election as the representative for the 1st Assembly District. In just over two years, he helped pass historic measures that have saved tax payers billions of dollars and allowed small businesses to create more jobs. As an Assemblyman Losquadro capped property tax growth for home owners, repealed the MTA payroll tax on small businesses, and increased state aid to our local schools to improve education and keep taxes down. He also played a key role in bringing the middle-class tax rate to its lowest level in 58 years and restoring fiscal responsibility to our state by passing consecutive on-time budgets and closing a $13.5 billion deficit without raising taxes.
After winning his second term in the Assembly, Losquadro was lobbied by many community members, business leaders and elected officials to seek the open position of Highway Superintendent in the Town of Brookhaven which was being vacated by John Rouse, who had been elected as a judge. Despite his passion for the state legislature, Dan made the decision to bring his private sector and governmental experience back home to Brookhaven. On March 5 of 2013, Losquadro was elected town-wide to serve as Brookhaven Town Superintendent of Highways. Superintendent Losquadro is responsible for a department with almost 300 employees, a total budget of over $110 million and 3700+ lane mile of road in an area larger than Nassau County. He has undertaken a comprehensive strategy of reconstruction for the Highway Department, both internally and externally. Paving more miles of road than has been done in many years, Superintendent Losquadro has also moved many storm damaged projects forward that have languished since storms Sandy and even Irene. Internally, replacing an aging and failing fleet has been a priority as well as putting new technology in place to manage work orders and vastly improve emergency management.
For nearly a decade before taking office, Dan Losquadro developed relationships with community members through his work as a senior property claims estimator for State Farm Insurance. He has served on the front line against insurance fraud and takes pride in knowing that his work helped keep insurance costs down for his constituents. During his tenure at State Farm, Losquadro’s expertise was instrumental in the arrest and conviction of several individuals who had engaged in illegal activities.
Dan is a lifelong Brookhaven resident who was raised in Wading River and attended Shoreham-Wading River schools. He is a graduate of The State University of New York at Stony Brook where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in History. Dan purchased a home in Shoreham, where he has lived for over 15 years with his wife Lynn, son Joseph and daughter Meghan. Dan’s wife is a middle school math teacher in their local school district.
