Superintendent Losquadro is responsible for a department with almost 300 employees, a total budget of over $110 million and 3700+ lane mile of road in an area larger than Nassau County. He has undertaken a comprehensive strategy of reconstruction for the Highway Department, both internally and externally. Paving more miles of road than has been done in many years, Superintendent Losquadro has also moved many storm damaged projects forward that have languished since storms Sandy and even Irene. Internally, replacing an aging and failing fleet has been a priority as well as putting new technology in place to manage work orders and vastly improve emergency management.

Continuing the path of progress in the Highway Department will take leadership, vision, and hard work. The goal of going fully paperless will provide a more efficient and responsive department better able to deal with the thousands of calls for service received each year.

Employing business strategies of constant quality improvement, mid and long term planning, and an overall analysis of enterprise architecture of the Highway Department have led to significant improvements in a short period of time. Despite this, much more needs to be done. The neglect of the department’s internal assets as well as the roadway infrastructure will take many more years to correct but, thanks to Superintendent Losquadro, now there is a plan in place to do so
