12 Oct Brookhaven Highway Department Executes Inter Municipal Agreement with South Country School District
East Patchogue, NY – The Brookhaven Town Highway Department recently entered into an intermunicipal agreement with the South Country Central School District for the purposes of consolidating services. The agreement encompasses several public works services including, but not limited to, the purchase of salt and sand, the maintenance and repair of drainage structures, road striping, signage manufacturing and installation, sweeping and pothole repair.
This inter-municipal agreement furthers the Town of Brookhaven’s goal of promoting efficiency between the Town, Villages, and Special Districts through the modernization and reinvention of the delivery of public works services.
“Working together, the goal of this program is to identify opportunities where a Town-Village partnership makes sense and delivers real financial savings to our mutual constituency,” said Brookhaven Highway Superintendent Daniel Losquadro. “I look forward to identifying additional shared services and consolidation opportunities, including pot hole repairs, resurfacing, concrete, drainage, and salt/sand distribution, as well as upgrading street lights, with the South Country School District.”
Dr. Sammy Gergis, assistant superintendent for finance and management services for the South Country School District, said, “The District is excited to work with the Town of Brookhaven Highway Department, and take advantage of the unique opportunity and cost savings presented with this cooperative program. No doubt, several of the District’s facilities, capital and infrastructure needs already identified can be remediated through this program, and the ability to streamline time, labor and materials will prove invaluable.”
Brookhaven Town was recently awarded a $20 million Municipal Consolidation and Efficiency Competition (MCEC) grant by New York State. This grant is designed to improve the delivery of municipal services while also reducing the burden on taxpayers by reducing redundancy in local governments, pursuing opportunities for increasing shared services, and implementing modernizations and best practices. This partnership with the South Country Central School District furthers these efforts.
