Shoreham, NY – The Brookhaven Town Highway Department recently entered into an intermunicipal agreement with the Incorporated Village of Shoreham for the purposes of consolidating services. The agreement encompasses several public works services including, but not limited to, snow and ice removal, the application of salt and sand, the installation and dismantling of snow fences, road striping, signage installation, sweeping and pothole repair to Village roadways.

This inter-municipal agreement furthers the Town of Brookhaven’s goal of promoting efficiency between the Town, Villages, and Special Districts through the modernization and reinvention of the delivery of public works services. This consolidation will also decrease the financial burden on taxpayers by reducing redundancy in local governments, allowing the Village of Shoreham to pursue opportunities for additional shared services while also implementing best government practices.
“Continuing our longstanding positive working relationship with the Village of Shoreham, I look forward to identifying additional shared services and consolidation opportunities with Mayor Vail,” said Brookhaven Highway Superintendent Daniel Losquadro. “Working together, the goal of this program is to identify opportunities where a Town-Village partnership makes sense and deliver real financial savings to our mutual constituency.”
Shoreham Village Mayor Brian Vail said, “Shoreham Village residents have already benefited from our positive working relationship with the Town of Brookhaven. Working with Dan Losquadro and the Town Highway Department, Shoreham Village has saved over $100,000 in road construction work just this past fall. That is real dollars and cents savings.”
Brookhaven Town was recently awarded a $20 million Municipal Consolidation and Efficiency Competition (MCEC) grant by New York State. This grant is designed to improve the delivery of municipal services while also reducing the burden on taxpayers by reducing redundancy in local governments, pursuing opportunities for increasing shared services, and implementing modernizations and best practices. This partnership with the Village of Shoreham furthers these efforts.
