Rocky Point, NY – Brookhaven Town Highway Superintendent Daniel P. Losquadro and Councilwoman Jane Bonner have announced the completion of the paving of Main Street (Business 25A) from Woodville Road in Shoreham to the West End Bypass Light in Rocky Point.

The total cost for this project, which prior to milling and paving included a substantial amount of concrete work to replace damaged sidewalks and handicap ramps, was approximately $635,000. Crews replaced 2,332 linear feet of concrete curb, 1,826 square feet of concrete sidewalk, 6,561 square feet of ADA-compliant handicap ramps, and 876 square feet of aprons at a total cost of $214,000. In addition, crews refurbished an overgrown median on the west end of Business 25A that had previously required extensive upkeep. After removal of the old vegetation, three new tree pits were installed and new concrete was poured to create a surface that is both aesthetically-pleasing and needs almost no maintenance; street-friendly trees were planted to complete the project.

“Rocky Point’s Business 25A, which has been under Town jurisdiction since New York State built the 25A bypass just over 20 years ago, is a main artery for residents and those accessing the businesses on Main Street and Broadway,” Superintendent Losquadro said. “The roadway, as well as much of the surrounding curb and sidewalk, were in desperate need of repair.”

Councilwoman Bonner said, “This section of Route 25A from Shoreham to Rocky Point is a very busy vehicle and pedestrian traffic area. It was in need of an upgrade and thanks to the efforts of Superintendent Losquadro and the Highway Department, it will now be much safer for everyone to travel.”
